What is a Chartered Building Surveyor?

A Chartered Building Surveyor is a highly qualified professional specializing in the assessment, maintenance, and management of buildings. They provide expert advice on construction, property development, and building defects, ensuring buildings meet safety, regulatory, and sustainability standards. With a focus on technical expertise, they conduct surveys, prepare reports, and offer guidance on renovations, refurbishments, and compliance with building regulations and code. Accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), they combine practical knowledge with analytical skills to support clients in residential, commercial, and industrial property sectors.

To obtain such a designation typically takes 4+ years after graduating with a suitable degree and requires the completion of an assessment professional competence, preparation of a critical analysis essay and formal interview by a panel of RICS members.
